Seq 2025.1 Preview 1

It's time to take the wraps off the next big Seq update! The 2025.1 preview MSIs are now on the Seq download page and datalust/seq:preview is ready to pull from Docker Hub.

Seq is the private, secure, self-hosted server for centralizing structured logs and traces. Ingest diagnostics from OpenTelemetry and other log sources, then monitor applications and hunt bugs using an ergonomic query language and full JSON data model — without data leaving your infrastructure.

What's new in Seq 2025.1?

  • Clusters now support high availability (HA) with unattended fail-over and scale-out query execution.
  • Request latencies can be examined with the sparkling new heatmap visualization.
  • Performance of percentile() queries has been dramatically improved.
  • Features and keyboard shortcuts are easier to find in the new Ctrl-Space command palette.
  • Seq's internal system notifications such as disk space warnings can now be routed to email, chat, and other notification channels.
  • More queries now benefit from incremental result set memoization, speeding up repeated computations over the same data.
  • The light theme has been completely redesigned to match the dark theme in comfort and style, and both themes have been significantly updated.
  • Message templates now support placeholders with dotted names, improving compatibility with OpenTelemetry and ECS naming schemes.
  • The Seq query language now supports Replace(text, pattern, replacement) for both substring and regular expression find-and-replace.

What's still to come?

Preview 1 is fully-functional and suitable for non-mission-critical environments. The Seq documentation has not been updated with 2025.1 changes, and it's likely there are bugs and performance issues still to be found. We'll continue posting previews regularly until the final 2025.1 release in late Q1 or early Q2 this year.

This preview introduces a 50GB storage limit on the free Individual version; if you're running a large server on Individual and need help migrating or reducing data volumes, please get in touch.

Seq 2025.1 is an easy in-place upgrade from 2022.1 and later Seq versions. If you're running Seq in a DR configuration, reach out to support@datalust.co so that we can help you prepare the migration to HA in 2025.1. Please raise bugs on the Seq issue tracker or jump into the comments below if you have any questions.

Download the MSI from the Seq download page or pull datalust/seq:preview from Docker Hub.
